I support liberty, whomever may be fighting for it

I might be some nobody from a small country on the other side of the Atlantic typing stories on the internet, but I thought I’d play a small part in all the pandemonium of the last few days.

On the front page of Medium I saw a post with the title “Whiteness stole from us again”, referring to the crowd of pro-Trump protesters storming the Capitol. These people have got it at the wrong end: this isn’t and has never been an issue of race, but an issue of class.

No matter what side of the political spectrum you are on, you’ll probably want a better future for the everyman. There are low-income people with a pale skin colour and low-income people with a dark skin colour. All of us have more in common against the oligarchs who are in power than we are led to believe.

Whether you support Trump or not is largely irrelevant: what happened in the Capitol has shaken the elite. The people have shown that they are not invulnerable and that their actions have consequences. People are sick and tired of their wealth slowly being eroded while being sold out to corporate and foreign interests.

In the end, we all want a better world to live in. Sometimes mere voting and likewise political action aren’t enough. Remember that no one rules over you and that you have the power.
